Walabot DIY 2 Essential Bundle review

The DIY 2 wall-imaging scanner bundled with Walattach MagSafe-compatible connector rings and a USB Type-C cable. Phone compatibility and the scanner’s wall limits remain the same; the case is not listed in this package.

A useful fit for

For dry interior drywall or maker-named plywood when the user wants a phone-based image/Expert scanning workflow and is comfortable interpreting visual cues. The matching plan requires a compatible Android/iPhone and calibration at a new wall.

The main tradeoff

It depends on a compatible smartphone and rechargeable power, and it does not support the maker-excluded lath/plaster, concrete, tile, brick, metal-backed or stucco surfaces. The stated four-inch maximum is an object-depth claim, not a supported numeric stud-depth value; imagery is not a live-wire meter or safe-drilling assurance.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Will the DIY 2 scan my planned surface?

The reviewed manufacturer page names drywall and plywood and excludes lath/plaster, concrete, tile, brick, metal-backed walls and stucco. A supported material is not a guarantee for every thickness or finish.

What does it show when scanning?

Walabot offers Images and Expert app views and describes center/edge interpretation. The phone display is evidence to cross-check, not a material identity or safety certification.

Does the four-inch figure mean it finds studs four inches deep?

No stud-specific maximum was established in the reviewed maker sources. The four-inch figure is a general object-depth ceiling and stays separate from the finder’s numeric stud-depth slider.

The Walabot DIY 2 Essential Bundle is the separate SKU DIY2BNDLVE02, not just a new label for the bare DIY 2. Walabot’s U.S. product page lists the scanner, Walattach MagSafe-compatible connector rings, and a USB Type-C charging cable. The maker does not list the protective case among this bundle’s included items. The scanner inside is still the DIY 2: the rings change the phone-attachment package, not the documented detection modes or wall limits. This assessment is based on manufacturer material, not a hands-on test.

What the Essential package changes

The included rings are the meaningful difference from the base device: the product page identifies them as MagSafe-compatible connector rings. They may suit a buyer who wants the maker’s magnetic phone-attachment option, but the product description does not make every phone, case, or case thickness compatible. Check your exact handset and case setup before treating the rings as a universal mount. A compatible phone is still required to view the scan.

The Essential bundle is not the storage-focused option. Walabot’s separate Deluxe Bundle adds a protective case instead, while its Premium Bundle adds both the case and rings. If you only need the scanner and USB-C cable, the base configuration is a different listing. Compare the exact bundle name and SKU rather than assuming the accessory in a product photo appears in every box.

Imaging capability remains the same DIY 2

Images Mode renders graphical categories such as wood or metal studs and pipes or wires. Expert Mode presents raw radar data and is marketed for more complex overlapping responses. Walabot’s own guide describes tracing stud edges and finding the center in Expert Mode. This is screen-based interpretation, not a photograph through the wall. A printed edge or center marker should be checked against a second pass and the rest of the wall context.

The manufacturer states a maximum object-detection depth of four inches (10 centimeters). That is a ceiling, not proof that every stud or wire will be detected at that depth. The product documentation does not publish a per-stud accuracy guarantee at the maximum. Treat the value as a capability comparison and not a promise about every particular wall.

Stay within its named surfaces

Walabot lists drywall and plywood for the DIY 2 and warns against using it on lath and plaster, concrete, tile, brick, metal-backed walls, and stucco. The bundle does not widen that list. If your job depends on scanning tile, an older plaster wall, an exterior build-up, or metal backing, the Essential accessory package does not make this a documented fit. Select a tool with a manual that names the actual construction instead.

The phone’s operating-system floor is Android 8.0 or later or iPhone 7 or later, according to the maker’s support page. The scanner creates its own Wi-Fi connection, so it does not depend on a jobsite router, but it does depend on pairing the compatible phone and using the app. Walabot says to calibrate at the beginning of work on a new wall. Follow the app prompts and do not interpret a clean display as proof that there are no utilities.

Power and buying checks

The DIY 2 has a rechargeable battery and charges through USB Type-C. Manufacturer support estimates about four hours to charge and about three hours of scanning from a full battery; this review did not measure runtime. The exact bundle page lists the charge cable, but does not establish that a wall adapter or phone is included. Before ordering, verify the specific SKU, ring compatibility with your own phone/case, the charging accessories you need, the return terms, and the exact seller’s description.

Assessment

The Essential Bundle makes sense only when you want the DIY 2’s supported drywall/plywood imaging and the included connector rings are useful for your phone setup. Its scanner is not more capable than the base DIY 2, and it is not the package to choose for a protective case. Confirm that the rings suit your handset, then weigh the phone dependency and surface restrictions against the convenience of the app’s Images and Expert views. The scan can inform a decision; it cannot certify a safe drilling location.

Key details at a glance

Depth qualificationWalabot states a general object-depth maximum of 4 in / 10 cm. The reviewed maker material does not give a separately qualified wood-stud depth maximum, so the numeric questionnaire field for stated stud depth remains unknown; no four-inch stud claim is inferred.
Documented scan modes['Images Mode', 'Expert Mode']
Center and edge indicationYes
Live-wire meterNo
Battery requirementBuilt-in rechargeable battery; charge over USB Type-C. The maker estimates about four hours to charge and about three hours of scanning on a full charge; those are manufacturer estimates, not independent runtime tests.
